About Joanne
I have been teaching Piano for over 30 years. I have extensive teaching experience in New Zealand, Nagoya, Japan for 1 year and Vienna, Austria for 12 years, Since my relocation to New Zealand, I have established my Piano Teaching Business 'Von Trapp Music Academy'. In Vienna, I was the Representative for Austria for the ABRSM ( Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), while teaching Piano full time at the Vienna International School to students from a wide range of abilities, and diverse backgrounds. I enjoy teaching students of all levels from beginners to Diploma, and I have extensive experience and expertise with preparing students for either Trinity College of Music or ABRSM Piano Examinations with students always achieving fantastic marks of High Merits and DIstinctions. I am a professional collaborative Classical Pianist,and I regularly perform chamber music with various instrumentalists. I am also an active Classical and Jazz Examiner for Trinity College of Music, London. As a teacher, I continue my own learning and research by my commitment to attending Music workshops, seminars, conferences, masterclasses and concerts. I thrive on passing on my passion and enthusiasm for Music to all my students, and I make it a priority to keep lessons fresh, interesting and exciting.

About Nicole
Originally from Hong Kong, China, I began my piano lessons at a young age. During my high school years, I accompanied the choir and was honoured to serve as the President of the School Choir. I obtained my ATCL Piano Diploma (Trinity College London) in 2018 and completed an ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory certificate in 2022. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music, from the University of Auckland. My teaching journey has taken me across Hong Kong and New Zealand, where I have worked with students at all levels, from beginner to advanced. I currently teach at Von Trapp Music Academy, where I have been teaching for the past year. I focus on delivering structured, encouraging lessons that build strong foundations, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of music. I also guide students through exam preparation and performance opportunities, with an emphasis on technique, musicality, and enjoyment. I teach fluently in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, which enables me to tailor my instruction to each student and communicate effectively with their families. Music has always been at the heart of my life, and teaching allows me to share that passion while supporting students of all ages and backgrounds as they grow. I feel privileged to play a role in shaping my students’ musical journeys!
VON TRAPP TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
Every child comes to our world with Musical ability, either on a personal level, professional level, or both, and we aim to create in our students a lifelong love of Music. We encourage our students to never give up on their goals, no matter what paths or streams they need to cross along their musical journey, but to keep striving to reach their musical goals and potential. It is our duty as Music teachers to foster and inspire this natural capacity. We provide our students with every single bit of information that we can, to guide them through their Musical Journey. Ultimately, however, it is the role of the teacher to take the student to the point where they do not need us anymore. Music is a necessary part of life, and children need the beauty and expression of music just as much as they need to know how to read and multiply. We believe our Tuition is unique, and we continue to customize our lessons to accommodate the needs and learning styles of each Individual student.​
